Installing my 3G modem under Snow Leopard

I’ve recently moved from my white MacBook to a 13” MacBook Pro and – as many people warned me beforehand – I encountered a bit of hassle installing my drivers for my T-Mobile 3G stick (the black and pink plastic model) under the new machine’s Snow Leopard.

By the time you read this it’s possible T-Mobile have an updated driver but the last time I called in no-one would own up to one being available for my modem model.

Although it’s a teeny bit more complex than a single click installer it is possible to get your modem up and running so you can use your modem
When I plug my modem into the MacBook it places a CD/DVD icon on the desktop, within this there’s a an icon called Web ‘n’ walk stick manager.

Right-clicking on this allows you to ‘view package contents’ – within the resulting ‘contents’ folder are several more; lurking in the ‘Resources’ folder is a file called Mobile_Connect_Drv_App.pkg and it’s within here that the drivers we need lurk.

After I’d dragged this to the desktop and double clicked it the laptop was able to recognise my modem and I just had to insert *99# into the Telephone Number field within the Network settings.

After this I was able to connect and browse just as quickly and reliably as I could under Leopard
