I don’t understand is why a respected, groundbreaking manufacturer such as RIM would decide to play ‘me too’ with a handset designed for just about anybody but RIMs high level corporate users.
Orange has confirmed it is to offer the new BlackBerry Curve 8520 on both pay as you go and pay monthly tariffs from August. Talking up the social networking capabilities of the handset, manufacturers RIM say it will support mobile access to both Facebook and MySpace, as well as offering the usual email and messaging services.
As regular readers may know, although I’m a relatively recent convert, I’m a huge fan of Blackberry but, as I previously wrote, I was recently without one after an accident involving some coffee. Mobile operator Orange is to be the first UK provider to offer a Pay As You Go BlackBerry service. For £145, customers will be able to purchase a BlackBerry Pearl 8120 with access to the BlackBerry service costing £5 per month.
O2 has announced that the new BlackBerry Curve™ 8900 smartphone will be available for pre-registration in the UK from December 10th and pre-order from December 22nd from the O2 website: www.o2.co.uk/blackberry. The device is expected to ship to customers from 5th January 2009.
The Blackberry Storm, the first ever touch-screen BlackBerry smartphone, will be available exclusively from Vodafone from 14th November. Customers who want to be the first in the UK to get the device are being invited to pre-order in Vodafone stores or online at www.vodafone.co.uk/storm.
